In 1950, Phonak Alpina made its first portable audio devices available to the public. A leader in the development of wireless communication for 70 years, Phonak applied their expertise to the manufacture of hearing devices with cutting-edge features.
A long string of innovations started off with the release of a pair of glasses with integrated hearing aids known as Visaton Super (1967), the world’s first BTE (behind-the-ear) hearing aid (Phonette) followed in 1970, and the audio input technology that provided the foundation for FM devices was developed by Phonak in 1979.
Digitally programmed hearing aids with an analogue processor (PICS) were made available in 1992, the AudioZoom multi-microphone concept in 1994, and the first tiny FM receiver (MicroLink) in 1996.
In 1999, Phonak developed the first digital hearing system with FM receivers, leading to the tiny MLx ear-level FM receiver hearing system the following year and SmartLink (Bluetooth integration technology) in 2003.
Phonak also produced the first extended wear hearing aids in 2011 using innovative materials technology to create water-resistant housings in 2008, which was combined with nano-digital hearing aid technology.
