During Hearing Health Awareness Month, the team at Jacobs Audiology wants to provide you with insights about the benefits of advanced treatments.

But there’s an important first step in the journey to better hearing: a comprehensive assessment.

This rigorous one-on-one session, led by Randi Pinno or me, will reveal your overall hearing capacity and any underlying conditions.

However, too few people know what happens during these life-changing appointments.

So the team has put together an outline showing you what to expect when you come through our doors.

What’s going on with you?

When you first come to either the Bowie or Southern Maryland clinic, you’ll fill out some paperwork before being introduced to your specialist.

In some audiology offices, you’ll be given a hearing test almost immediately. But at Jacobs Audiology, we want to get to know you first.

Your specialist will ask you about your concerns and past experiences. They’ll also want to find out about your medical record, as this can impact their assessments.

It’s a great idea to bring along a loved one, who can also reflect upon your day-to-day hearing issues.

Once they have all this contextual information, your specialist can move forward to the next phase of the hearing assessment.

The sound booth

The tests that we conduct at Jacobs Audiology provide specialists with highly precise data on individuals’ hearing capacity.

Initially, you’ll put on a pair of headphones and listen to a series of beeps that grow softer in volume.

Each time you hear one, you’ll press a button, with this process revealing your hearing threshold.

Other tests will include an assessment of how well you understand speech in the presence of background noises.

For this, your specialist will simply ask you to repeat certain keywords and phrases.

After you’ve completed this part of the consultation, your specialist will bring you back to their office to discuss the results.

Review and feedback

Your audiologist will use the information from your tests to give you a complete picture of your hearing ability.

And if they’ve detected a hearing loss, they’ll propose solutions for how you can achieve a fantastic outcome in the future.

If you’re an excellent candidate for hearing aid treatment, they can provide you with expert advice about what devices might suit you.

For this, they’ll not just consider your level of investment but also your environmental factors, prescriptions needs, and hearing expectations.

Patients can be fitted with hearing aids right away if they’re ready. Many walk out of our doors with truly life-changing treatment.

Are you concerned about a hearing loss or know someone who is? Contact the team at Jacobs Audiology and they’ll help you fast!

Do you know somebody that needs to see this? Why not share it?
