‘What you don’t know can’t hurt you’ is a saying that is more repeated than it is true.
We can be hurt by things we don’t know. If we have no idea where our money goes every month, that can hurt our financial bottom line.
If we don’t know where our kids are or what they are doing, their well-being is in jeopardy.
And if we don’t know whether we have hearing loss, there are several ways that we can be hurt by that lack of knowledge.
Studies have shown links between hearing loss and such conditions as cognitive decline and depression.
Yet most of us don’t think of hearing loss as something that can endanger our well-being, despite the fact that it is the third most common health condition, just behind arthritis and heart disease.
As many as one in three older adults experience some degree of hearing loss, yet many don’t even realize it. That needs to change.
Regular Check-ups are the Key
You can’t know whether you have hearing loss without regularly having your hearing checked.
People don’t notice gradual changes to their hearing on their own; they need a professional to conduct testing on them, ideally on an annual basis.
You check such things as your blood pressure and cholesterol count regularly; why not test your hearing often? There’s no good reason not to, and your health may depend on it. I have more than 25 years of experience helping more than 10,000 patients with questions and concerns related to their hearing.
I care about my patients’ well-being and always make myself personally available to help them, whether they simply need a quick and pain-free hearing assessment or have been diagnosed with hearing impairment and need to navigate their options.
The top priority for me and my associates is to provide you with the guidance you need.
We do this by giving you an accurate hearing assessment and a methodical plan to improve your hearing if that is indicated.
This plan may include a recommendation for some form of hearing aid.
Forget the Clichés
Old-fashioned ideas of hearing aids involve frail old people with enormous equipment sticking out of their ears while they fiddle with a dial and say ‘Eeehhhh?’ This sort of thing is long in the past, thank goodness!
Today’s hearing aids are virtually invisible. They work exceptionally well. They even have capabilities to connect to your computer, your smartphone, or your television to stream calls, music, and so forth whenever you wish.
Such technology was unheard of just a short time ago, but it’s available now. Though at Jacobs Audiology, hearing technology is just one small part of our total plan for you.
It’s always the human component that is most important.
