Your Guide To Choosing The Perfect Hearing Aid

by | Jun 16, 2021 | Hearing Aids, Hearing Loss, Patient Resources, Technology

In a rapidly evolving world, so many of us are turning to the information we find online to help us make an informed decision around our next purchase.

However, when considering purchasing hearing aids, it’s crucial to understand that they aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution.

Which is why when patients ask me “What hearing aids are the best?” the answer is not simple without further consideration.

It’s like asking a fishmonger “What fish is the best?” You know you wouldn’t ask this question, since different types of fish taste different and are not always to everyone else’s preference – you would make the decision based on your own needs.

As the most compassionate and local audiologist in Maryland, my goal has always been to support those in our community so they can better understand their options when it comes to treating hearing loss.

Which Hearing Aid Manufacturer Is Best For You?

We have helped thousands of local people in the Bowie and Southern Maryland regions to achieve better hearing.

Our experience is what helps us decide which manufacturers we choose to partner with and are confident to supply to our patients.

The three main manufacturers we partner with are:

  • ReSound
  • Oticon
  • Widex

These three reputable manufacturers have been incredibly successful among our Maryland patients and have sold millions of hearing devices worldwide.

Personally, I think they’re leading the way in advanced hearing technology. Their devices offer a wide range of solutions and the greatest results for our patients.

ReSound noise reduction and its Bluetooth capability are amazing.

Direct streaming allows patients to hear on their cell phones. They’re rechargeable aids that last for 24-30 hours, so you never have to worry about the battery dying.

I also like them because they have a full range of hearing aid technology. Spanning from the less expensive basic through to the ones that do everything except wash your dishes.

Right now, key devices that are impressing us include the ReSound ONE, the Oticon More, and the Widex Moment.

New technology is constantly emerging, and we stay at the forefront to ensure we deliver the best outcome for you and all our patients.

How Your Lifestyle, Personal Style, And Budget Will Impact Your Decision?

Your lifestyle is another key consideration when choosing the right hearing aids. The different environments where your devices will need to perform at their best must be considered as an essential factor.

For example, if you spend your day at home with young children or dependents who require your undivided attention, your hearing aid settings would be much different to someone who spends a lot of time on the phone at work or otherwise.

We dive deep into each patient’s lifestyle to help determine which technology best meets their needs. We talk about cosmetics and cost as well.

These are the key factors that help determine which device is the most appropriate for them.

This translates to your preferred style as well. Many patients are concerned about hearing aids making them appear old, but gone are the days of big and unsightly devices – even the lower end hearing devices in 2021 are fairly discreet and extremely comfortable.

There is also a choice of batteries. We find that some people demand rechargeable batteries so that they don’t have to fiddle with and replace small batteries.

Others don’t care and choose to not include rechargeability.

Then there’s the important matter of budget. With different hearing devices and treatment plans available, we’ll find an option that works for you.

Whether by utilizing payment plans, your insurance benefits, or exploring other options, we are here to help.
